Prayer list and announcements for October 9th

Opportunities to Serve
Christmas is just around the corner and so is the Shoebox Christmas Gift program for the Dakotas Conference. Last year, Shoebox Christmas provided just over 4000 Christmas gifts to children in our conference that might not have gotten a gift during Christmas. The program reaches five reservations, homeless shelters and local churches throughout our conference. It's easy and fun to donate. Just get an empty shoebox and wrap the bottom and top separately. Then fill it with lots of fun stuff, put a rubber band around it so the top stays on and take it to the collection point nearest you. One mother of an eight-year-old boy told us "Thank you so much! This is the first Christmas gift he has ever gotten." Here are some suggestions for your Shoebox Christmas Gift: Hot Wheel cars, Handheld Electronic Games, Dolls, Card Games, Coloring books, Beanie Babies, Colors, books, small tools and flashlights.
Blood is a valuable resource within each of us. By donating blood we can share our joy in life and God’s love with others. Blood, like love, is for sharing. Please donate at the
Britton Community Blood Drive
on Wednesday, October 12th at the Community Room from to . Please call United Blood Services to set up an appointment at 1-800-917-4929.
Upcoming Events
Claremont UMC invites you to attend their 2nd annual Harvest Breakfast on Saturday, October 15th from . A free will offering will be accepted. Come and enjoy a time of fellowship and good food. Sign-up sheets are on the entry table to donate food and a sheet will be placed to help with preparation, serving and cleanup. Thank you in advance for your help; through prayer, donations, service and/or fellowship.

The next two Sundays, the sermons will focus on worship. On October 16th the “Why” of worship will be the focus and on October 23rd the “How” of worship will be the focus. Then beginning October 30th we will begin a three part series on “Simplicity and Generosity”. Invite your friends and neighbors to attend during the next several weeks.

Over the next couple of weeks, 3-4 people in each church will be given a survey to help evaluate the worship time. If you are one of them, Please take the time to fill them out (3-5 questions) and return them to Pastor Nancy or to a member of the Worship Team (Hecla-Stephanie Frohling, Bev Dinger, Marian Trautmann; Britton- Pam Meockly, Elaine Wismer, Vicki Renner; Claremont-Carol Hanse, Geri Rassmussen, Yvonne Gibbs, Judy Pierson.) The goals are to assess the vitality of worship, the experiences of God in worship, and how worship can become more pertinent, vibrant and renewing. If you have feedback on this and aren’t selected as one of the participants, please contact Pastor Nancy or one of the members of the Worship Team. Thank you in advance for helping to make our time of worship meaningful and joyous.

The Hecla UMC Annual Turkey supper is scheduled for Sunday, November 6th at the Hecla Community Center.  Sign up sheets for donations of food, money and service are on the kitchen counter.  There will also be a bake sale in conjunction with the Supper.  Mark your calendars and prayerfully consider how you are able to help with this project.

On October 15th everyone is invited to come and help decorate Hecla UMC for fall.  Come and help and enjoy good fellowship while bringing the beauty of God’s creation into the sanctuary.
