prayer list and announcements for April 3

As you know by now, Rick & Carla Pahl lost their home and all of their belongings in a fire on Saturday, March 19th. The community of Claremont is planning a household shower to help them set up their new home. A date is pending at this time. A fund has been set up at First State Bank (Claremont, Groton, Langford & Columbia) for anyone wishing to make cash donations. The family is also registering at Shopko, Target and Menards for items they will need. Thank you in advance for your prayers and your generosity in helping the Pahl’s get back into a home.

The devastation of the destruction and ongoing crises in Japan seems insurmountable. The loss of lives alone is overwhelming. Please continue to lift this country and its people in prayer. Our own UMCOR  is responding to the disaster and bringing a piece of hope to their lives. Please be mindful of ways you may be able to reach out to the people of Japan who have literally had their lives turned upside down and inside out. Pray for the people and for those who respond to help in so many different ways.

Anyone wishing to bring an Easter Lily, daffodils or tulips to enhance our worship area on Easter Sunday is encouraged to do so. The more flowers we have the better. If you would like to give them in honor/memory of someone, let Pastor Nancy know by April 18th and it will be included in the bulletin. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Claremont’s UMYF will be hosting a breakfast prior to the service on Easter Sunday. It will be served from . Donations received will be used to help with the Mission trip in August.

On Sunday, April 10th a special offering will be received to support One Great Hour of Sharing. Proceeds enable UMCOR to continue their relief efforts around the world when disasters strike. Prayerfully consider how God is asking you to respond.

Pastor is looking for volunteers to attend the School of Ministry in Bismarck, ND on May 2-4th. The topic is on worship planning and on how we can encourage an increase in worship attendance. The speakers are from the Church of the Resurrection. Please contact Pastor Nancy if you are interested in attending with her. Registration deadline is April 15th.

Thoughts to Ponder
Worship of God must come from our spirits, from deep within. It is not an outward series of actions for others to notice. It is not even following the motions of tradition you’ve appreciated for years. Worship is a stirring in your soul that resonates with the truth of who God is. It is an inward movement, drawing you closer to God in the core of your being, for Jesus told the Samaritan woman that we must worship Him in spirit and in truth. Why? Because God is a spirit., He seeks those who will worship truly, not those who are just putting on a good show.

Thoughts to Ponder
“Get these three principles fixed in your hearts: that things eternal are much more considerable than things temporal; that things not see area s certain as the things that are seen; that upon your present choice depends your eternal lot. Choose Christ and his ways, and you are blessed forever; refuse and you are undone forever.”         John Wesley (Classics of Western Spirituality)
Claremont: Once again we will be having a light supper after the Lenten service. Volunteers are still needed for April 13th.  A sign up sheet is available on the entry table in the narthex. Thank you in advance for volunteering for this ministry of fellowship.

Spring begins today, both on the calendar and in the melting of the snow. We are beginning to see different colors other than white. Flooding is once again a concern in our area. Planning for the rising water is going on around us. I encourage you to take belongings and place them on higher levels. The UMC Dakotas Conference is gearing up to be ready for needs as they arise. There are three things each of us can do to help out: 1.) Be proactive and purchase supplies ahead of time that will be needed to deal with the waters; 2) check with neighbors and friends to make sure they are ready and if they are unable to do the proactive activities--let Pastor Nancy know so help can be arranged for them; and 3) Continue to pray for strengthen and endurance.

Thoughts to Ponder
“When you pray, you profess that you are not God and that you wouldn’t want to be, that you haven’t reached your goal yet, and that you never will reach it in this life, that you must constantly stretch out your hands and wait again for the gift which gives new life. This attitude is difficult because it makes you vulnerable.”
--From “With Open Hands” by Henri Nouwen.

Thoughts to Ponder
Have you ever done the very thing God told you to do and then ended up in what seemed like a worse situation?
The Apostle Paul experienced this on several occasions, but what kept him going was his trust in God’s character. Paul trusted that God was in control   And that means Paul took steps of faith based on his belief in God and not according to the circumstances he was in or what Pete Wilson might say,
Paul placed his faith in God’s identity, not in his ability to see God’s activity.)     Rev. Jon Walker, Saddleback Church
