Christmas is just around the corner and so is the Shoebox Christmas Gift program for the Dakotas Conference. Last year, Shoebox Christmas provided just over 4000 Christmas gifts to children in our conference that might not have gotten a gift during Christmas. The program reaches five reservations, homeless shelters and local churches throughout our conference. It's easy and fun to donate. Just get an empty shoebox and wrap the bottom and top separately. Then fill it with lots of fun stuff, put a rubber band around it so the top stays on and take it to the collection point nearest you. One mother of an eight-year-old boy told us "Thank you so much! This is the first Christmas gift he has ever gotten." Here are some suggestions for your Shoebox Christmas Gift: Hot Wheel cars, Handheld Electronic Games, Dolls, Card Games, Coloring books, Beanie Babies, Colors, books, small tools and flashlights.
World Communion Sunday is October 2, 2011. Your gifts to the World Communion Sunday offering equips racial- and ethnic-minority students in the United States and international students to transform the church and their communities.
The Minot Recovery Team is having a "Button Up Minot" work session on the first weekend of October 1-2.  If you cannot make it that weekend, schedule anytime you can in Minot before Oct. 16. This will involve working on Faith UMC as well as other related projects in the Minot area.  We will be mucking, cleaning, pulling nails, taking down walls or whatever needs to be done.   If you have a work team willing to travel to Minot please let us know.   It is best that you have your own housing (campers, tents, etc.) as rooms are not available at this time.
The District Superintendent, as well as the rest of the Cabinet of the Annual Conference, the Common Table and other teams within the Conference, is asking each church to set specific, measurable, reasonable and attainable goals for the future so that we might grow in our faith and in our worship attendance. The Annual Conference voted this past June to set the goal of increasing worship attendance by 1% in each church by the end of 2012. The goals we are asked to define will allow us to plan and work toward this goal and will need to be completed before the end of the year. Before we can begin to plan for the future we need to look back and see who we were and what God was doing in our midst in the past and then discern if this is still what God is calling us to do and be. In preparation for making goals for each church, Pastor Nancy would like those with stories from the past to share them with her, either verbally or in writing. The reason for doing this is SO THAT we can see where we’ve been and then evaluate and discern what God is calling us to do and be in the future. Once the stories are compiled they will be shared with each congregation during a worship service. What are your memories of growing up in the church? Of joining the church? Of serving in the church? What stories were you told by other generations about the church?  What ministries were active in the past? How did we do outreach/missions? Where was God visible? Pastor’s email is nancyserving@gmail.com and phone number is 294-5303 or 294-7388.
